Married filing jointly, Only I have an HSA Account, however spouse is covered by that. Turbo tax generates two form 8889s whereas the previous year it generated only one.

Married filing jointly, Only I have an HSA Account, however spouse is covered by that account. Turbo tax generates two form 8889s (one for taxpayer, another for spouse) whereas the previous year it generated only one. Form 8889 that was generated for the spouse is all 0s except lines 3 and 5 which is 6750 (family). I'm thinking it should generate only one Form 8889.

Correct.  Double check an answer in your TurboTax interview.  You should have answered "none" to the question if your wife has an HDHP.  The question really means if she has her own HDHP plan.  She does not because she is covered by your Family Plan.  However, if you said she is covered by a plan (as if it's her own plan), the program may generate a second 8889 in error.

Thanks, I did what you suggested the program still generates two 8889s. BUT, the 8889 for the spouse is now completely empty - all fields are 0 and no check boxes checked, except for name and SSN. This shouldn't hurt?

No, you should be fine.  As long as they are all zeroes.

Thank you very much. I double checked it was all 0s.

I too have the same query and the form 8889-S has zeros (across all 3 sections). My spouse doesn't have any HSA and we were covered by a single HDCP plan during entire 2017. Do I need to amend my return or should I be OK? I e-filed just a few hours ago and it was accepted.
