Hi, my husband and I worked for NY employer while living in PA till Oct last year. We moved to NY in Nov. As we got doubled-taxed from both, NY and PA, we get credit for PA from the taxes we paid to NY. Due to that, we have to file Schedule G-L. I know that through TT I can file Schedule G-L online through e-file but I have to show NY tax return as a proof and I am not sure how to send NY tax return online. I am assuming that I have to mail the NY tax return. Is that correct or there is a way to send NY tax return through TT while e-filing Schedule G-L?
If I have to mail, does anyone know the mailing address for PA?
Thanks in advance.
TurboTax will automatically attach the state return to the Pennsylvania return when the Schedule G-L is added to the tax return. You do not need to do anything extra for this form.
That's great. So I am actually filing for an extension for Federal, NY and PA return. In that case what will TT sends with form G-L?
TurboTax will send nothing with an extension. Extensions are separate forms where you estimate your income and tax due (an extension does not give you more time to pay, only to file).
TurboTax will send all the required forms when you actually file your federal and state returns. At that time, TurboTax will include a copy of the New York return with Pennsylvania.
Thanks for the reply. Is there any way I can show the credits that I got from NY to PA when filing for an extension? Can I send my W2 or Schedule G-L to PA via mail?
No. There is no way to include attachments with your extension. If you did include something, no one will look at it.
The extension is your estimate of the tax you owe.
If you guessed wrong, you’ll pay the additional tax due when you plus interest.
If you guessed right, you’ll get a refund.
