Generally, Maine taxpayers that choose to use the standard deduction on their federal return must use the Maine Standard Deduction on their state return.   Your itemized deductions from the Federal return automatically rolls over to the Maine return for calculating Maine income taxes.

The total itemized deductions from Maine adjusted gross income claimed on a return may not exceed $28,350, except the limitation does not apply to medical and dental expenses included in an individual's itemized deductions from federal adjusted gross income.
