I purchased TurboTax Deluxe without the state income tax by accident and now (obviously) it's asking me to upgrade to do my state income taxes. If I pay for the $40 upgrade will that upgrade only be usable for one state income tax e-filing (mine) or can my father and girlfriend also use it when they file their taxes using my program.
Thank you!
You have the CD/download? The state download is for one specific state and can be used to e-file up to 5 state returns along with the 5 federal e-files you get with the software. If you need a different state or more than 5 then you print sign and mail them. And...there is an e-file fee for the state in addition to the fee to buy the software program. You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print sign and mail the state instead of e-filing it.
Yes, I bought the Deluxe CD, but without the state income tax included. I just wanted to know if by purchasing the $40 upgrade I would get more than one e-file for the state in which we three reside. If not, then I would have to purchase a whole new copy with state included because that would be cheaper than buying three state income tax upgrades for the one CD we all 3 use.

The software comes with 5 free federal e-files. Since the state return can only be e-filed if the federal return is e-filed then that also means you get 5 state tax return e-files.
