You can use either way to enter the information, just not both.  You want to be sure to report the income if needed (if you received a 1099 or W2 and also if you you can use the income to qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit).  TurboTax keeps up with entries to make filing taxes easy, so the new questions are meant to replace the old way to enter.
