If I work for a public school district, is that considered a state or local government?

Hi

The school district is considered a part of the local government.  Therefore anyone who works for the school district considered an employee of a local government.  Public schools are funded by local taxes and are run by elected officials.

Thank you for using TurboTax.

Is the answer yes or no?  This question is asked by turbo tax and the choices are yes or no.  Does being an employee of a local government mean that I should select 'yes'?

Hi

If you are a teacher in North Carolina, you are a state employee.

If you work for a public school, you are a state employee, regardless of the state. When you work for a local, private school you are not an employee of the state or local government.
