I worked in Illinois in 2018 from January-(mid)July, but moved to Kentucky for graduate school in 2018 from (mid)July-December. Do I have to file taxes in both states?

I took out a loan for graduate school and paid off some accrued interest. Also, I did not make any money while in Kentucky.

If you had no income from Kentucky sources, it is not necessary for you to file a Kentucky tax return.  File only your Illinois resident return.
