I worked 3 days at a convention in a state that I am a nonresident of. Do I have to file under that state or the state that I live in?

On my check that I received, it says "Independent Contractor (1099)" under my wages. However, I did not receive a 1099 as it was under $600. I know I must file it as misc income but does it matter the state?

You will want to include it with your resident state tax return.  If it was your only California income you would not have to file a nonresident tax return.

Which state was the convention held in?  Most states have a minimum filing amount.
