I work in VA but live in MD, I'm confused on how much I'm supposed to enter for the state taxes or where to find it on my w2 do I just file 0?

Maryland and Virginia have a reciprocal agreement whereby residents of both states are only supposed to pay income tax to their home state when their only work state income is from a W-2.

If your employer did things correctly, you should only file a Maryland resident income tax return and nothing for Virginia. Look at boxes 15-20 on your W-2. The state code should be MD. You may also have Maryland local tax withheld.

If your W-2 shows Virginia tax withheld, then you will have to file a non-resident VA tax return just to get VA state tax back. In that case also give your employer a Form VA-4 to stop any further withholding of Virginia income tax.
