I work in Michigan and live in Wisconsin, my taxes are taken from WI why is it coming up for me to fill out a MI tax form?

WI has a reciprocal agreement so I shouldn't have to do a MI form, why does it want me to do a MI form?

Let's look at a couple of things.

  • Personal Info >> You and Your Family >>

Under "State of Residence" for you and your spouse does it say Wisconsin?  If not, click on "Edit" and change it.

Next let's look at your W-2

  • Federal Taxes >> Wages & Income >> I'll choose what I work on >>
  • Wages and Salaries >> Select >> Update
  • Your W-2 >> Select >> Edit
  • Scroll Down to >> Box 15

Is anything listed other than WI?  If so, delete it.

If you haven't found anything to trigger a MI return at this point, delete the MI return as follows:

  • File (Upper left corner of your screen) >> Remove State Return

If it tries to add MI back in it may tell you what's triggering the MI return.

If it does trigger MI again, print it out and see if anything is posting through.

If you imported your W-2s or anything else there may be something in the import that is causing this that we cannot see.

You may have to start over again and input everything by hand
