I want to mail my California state return but don't know what forms to include.

I want to mail my California state return but don't know what other forms to include. The TurboTax instructions I have are for eFile which I am not doing.

When paper filing your California Form 540, you need to include all of the tax forms that print with your return.  You should remove any piece of paper that says (keep for your records) at the top.

You'll also need to include a copy of any tax form you received that shows California withholding.

 

  • If your tax return has an amount due, mail your tax return to the following address:

FRANCHISE TAX BOARD

PO BOX 942867

SACRAMENTO CA 94267-0001

  • If your tax return shows a refund or no amount due, mail your tax return to the following address:

FRANCHISE TAX BOARD

PO BOX 942840

SACRAMENTO CA 94240-0001

Where is the screen shot? I have no idea what the form 540 is and im lost as to what forms to mail in... thanks in advance

Form 540 is the California Resident Income Tax Return.  Here is link to the blank form:  Blank CA 540-Resident Tax Return

 

When printing your return in TurboTax, to mail in to the taxing authority, you should print the entire return and all "Schedules" to mail in. 

 

You do not need to print or mail in Worksheets, unless they are requested by the taxing authority.

There are no pages on my 2021 California state tax return that state (keep for your records) at the top. Does that mean I have to print everything downloaded from my return?

Yes. A full copy of your tax return should be kept for your records.

Lena - I noticed that the 2021 California state tax return when printed in turbo tax premier no longer has that big bar code thing on it, compared to past years. Is there supposed to be a barcode for the california state tax return this year?  It was always there in past years. thanks!
