Which states are you filing in? Please provide additional details as to what is happening when you attempt to complete your second state.

SC and VA.  Issue is that this is my parents' return.  My dad died in March 2021.  They were staying with us in VA when he died.  My mom is now living with us and renting the home they owned in SC.

I finished SC.  Started VA.  Says I must file MFS (even tho MFJ on federal).  Then it says "follow this link".  When you do, it takes you to the Intuit discussion board page with no instructions.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Please be sure that your mother is the first one listed for the return. She needs to be the primary taxpayer. You can file the federal and both states as MFJ for them. Filing status instructions are on page 9, deceased page 4, of 760PY Instructions

So I should list Mama as primary taxpayer on both federal and the states (VA and SC)?

THanks for your help!!

Yes, you will list her as the primary for both the federal and both states.
