I'm from South Dakota, a non-taxable state. I closed on a house12/5/24 and moved to Missouri 12/5/24. Why is Missouri charging me $1K state taxes?

I've lived in MO for 3 weeks during 2024. I'm from SD. SD is state tax free. Is MO trying to charge me for a full year since I didn't pay state taxes in SD?

Missouri allows Part Year Residents to file as Residents, in which case you would get a credit for any taxes paid to your other Part Year state; or as a Nonresident, in which case you would only pay the tax on your Missouri income.  Since you moved from a state with no income tax, you will want to file as a Nonresident.
