I live in RI, but had temp contract jobs in CA and MI. How do I file my taxes? Do I select that I "lived in another state"? How does that affect state taxes?
I had two contract positions in the states of CA and MI (W2 jobs). I'm confused on the whole "I live in another state in 2021" part, then is asks when I "became a resident of RI", but RI is my home. I was temporarily away.

You shouldn't indicate that you lived in another state, that would only be true if you abandoned your residency in Rhode Island. You file non-resident returns in California and Michigan if you worked onsite there during the year.
