i LIVE IN KANSAS BUT I WORKED A FEW WEEKS IN CALIFORNIA and made $20000 DO I HAVE TO FILE A cALIFORNIA State tax?

Yes, you do need to file a California state tax return. Since you earned (have California-sourced income) $20,000 from working in California, you must report this income to California as a nonresident.

When you prepare your state returns, make sure to do the NON-resident return first, before you prepare the state return for the state you live in.
