I have form IT-2663-V from NYS. How do I put those numbers in my federal forms and on the NYS form?

I sold property in NYS and I paid the state tax due. I have form IT-2663-V from the sale. Do I report that on my federal tax forms? Where do the amount of sale and tax go on the federal and NYS forms?

Was this done in 2017, or in 2018?

Is this still valid for 2022?

After entering the Federal, TurboTax only recommended the resident state,  Do I need to do the non-resident NY state filing?

How do I enter this in?

Yes. You have income from NY, you need to file a NY return. Prepare the NY nonresident before your resident state to get credit for the income and tax paid to NY on your resident state return.

You get credit for the lower state tax on the lowest taxable amount.

  • Each state calculates taxable income differently.
  • Each state has its own tax rate/ system.
  • You get the lowest of both categories as a tax credit.

Where do I get the NYS non-resident tax form?  Is it part of the NY state return?

Yes, you will select NY nonresident and the program will generate the correct form IT 203.

following these instructions I entered my estimated tax payment from form IT-2663.  However, when transferring to NYS return the amount of the tax payment is double counted.  It is included in the "withholding" amount on line 62 and also on line 65 (which is apparently for estimated tax payment paid with form IT-370).  So, as a result, my total payments on line 66 is higher than it should be.

BTW, when i go to submit the NYS return the program says that I cannot submit it electronically because there is "withheld" taxes not from a W-2 etc.  But tax payment and withholding taxes are not the same thing.

Is there a work around for this?
