I have a sum of money listed in my Miscellaneous Income section and I have no idea what it's from. How can I view the source of the income?

All my other income (to the best of my knowledge) is accounted for. I never submitted a 1099-MISC. And when I click on the Edit/Review button next to that total, each of the categories says "Start". This is really baffling me. Any help?

If you are referring to the entry on line 8 of your form 1040 Other Income, you can look on schedule 1 to see where that income came from. You can see your form 1040 and schedule 1 to 3 while working in the online version of TurboTax as follows:

  1. Tools
  2. Tax Tools (left side of the menu bar)
  3. View Tax Summary
  4. Preview my 1040 (left menu bar)

Hey, thanks for the reply! I went into the 1040 preview, and couldn't find that number anywhere. I have no idea where it's coming from, and I'm confused why there's not an option to review it in the Miscellaneous Income section in the online app.

It could be coming from Less Common Income. In the Wages & Income, this is listed apart from Form 1099-MISC, which is available as Other Common Income. Scroll all the way to the end of the income section to see Less Common Income and Show More. From there, the amount will not be shown unless that section is selected.

If you reported Form 1099-K from personal property sales or reported prize winnings, for example, these amounts could be combined to the line item you are seeing.

For more information, see: If I didn't get a 1099-MISC, do I still need to report the income? Even if it's less than $600?
