I am filing a tax return for NJ. Why does NJ calculate taxes based on my total income, including income from other states and not just on income derived in NJ?

If NJ is your home state, it does tax all of your income, regardless of where derived. But it then usually gives you at least some credit for taxes paid elsewhere./
