I am a military member stationed in New York but when I filled my taxes they already recognized that I’m only a resident of Washington state do I have to do New York tax?

The turbo tax form said I only have to list Washington as my state residency which my command also said, but now turbo tax wants me to do a New York tax form but I am not legally a resident of New York due to my military status living here on orders

If your only income was you military pay and did not receive any type of income from New York, then you do NOT file a NY state tax return.

Go back to My Info and the left side of the online program screen. Edit your personal information.  Make sure you selected your resident state as Washington.  And that you did NOT select lived in another state.  As active military you do not select the state where you are currently posted.

Also in My Info there is a section for Other State Income.  Make sure it shows None.

In the personal info section, when it asks if you earned money in another state, answer no.
