How do I record a direct IRS online tax payment

I would like to make a payment through the IRS credit card processing system (https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-your-taxes-by-debit-or-credit-card), as their rate is much lower than paying by CC through TurboTax.

How do I record that payment so that it is credited against my taxes due and reflected in the program?  I want to have the remaining amount, net of this payment, show as the balance due on my 1040 and be taken from my checking account as I always have

The only function I see to record estimated taxes goes directly to asking for a series of quarterly payments amounts with the default 1040ES dates (1/14/25 for Q4).  I don't need it to be a timely 1040ES payment, so I won't make the payment for a while.  Can I still just enter it as a Fourth Quarter payment and put the date as whatever the correct Feb/March/April date is when I make it?  And assume the IRS will be able to match up the SSN and tax year?

you would record the payment as an estimated tax payment and that's what you need to select when paying with your CC. When paying the info needed includes your SSN and tax year it's for. That's how the IRS matches the payment to what's claimed on your return.

enter it the date and amount on the line for additional payments
