My son is military-stationed in VA but state of residency is MD-ALWAYS owes MD state and shouldn't...what do I need to do? The rep at the state office recommended filing 502CR. IS that correct?

I just spent several hours with a Turbotax CPA who finally figured it out with consulting at least 3 of your technicians. (The original TurboTax consultant was totally clueless.) This finally worked splendidly, but to figure out how to do it requires Einstein. You have to go into"Long Term Care" and move through that. Totally INSANE. KISS
Could you expand on that? I am trying to file the 502CR for a debt relief tax credit. Turbotax says it is supported but it won't let me file online. I have TurboTax deluxe as well.
You can prepare your state tax return using Turbotax. The software will recognize that you are not eligible to e-file and will direct you to a page where you can print your return and send it by mail with a copy of the letter you received in the mail.
I had the same problem. Spent the whole day in February 2020 with one and then with another who claimed to be a CPA with 45 years experience. Both did not know how to get the 502 CR done and because of that the refund was reduced. Paid quite a bit of money to get this done. Until last year I had no problems using TT but they, like all others, are slipping up badly. I hope I can get to connect with them again and have the 502 CR and 502 done with an amendment for MD State Tax 2019.
