In the Income section of the State Taxes interview, you will be directed to a page with the heading, "Here's the income that Virginia handles differently"
Scroll down to "Education" . Under Education, the Virginia College Savings Prepaid Tuition (Section 529) Plan is listed. Click on the Start button for the Virginia 529 Plan, answer the interview questions, indicate what type of plan you have, and indicate you made contributions in 2019.
Turns out. Turbo Tax is grouping the "Pre Paid Tuition Plan" in with the Va 529 Saving Account.... Which they may be similar, but Virginia specifically calls them and treats them differently.
So if you have a Virginia 529 Savings Account " Virginia 529 Invest", and need to add in your contributions, click on the Virginia "Prepaid Tuition Plan"
Silly Turbo Tax wording should be corrected.
You are spot on @Taxes Stink! The prePaid tuition plan is different from the 529 inVest.
However they both end up on the same line of the form – and they are under the same deduction code (104) – which is why TurboTax groups them together.
