How do I apply my state refund (IL) to next year's taxes rather than receiving the refund?

I find instructions to do so for federal refund, but not state.

The option to apply your Illinois refund against your 2023 estimated payments is in the Illinois section.

  1. Go to the screen “A few things before we wrap up your states taxes”
  2. In Other Forms, select Estimate tax payments for next year
  3. On “Do You Want to Pay Illinois Estimated Taxes for 2023?” say YES
  4. Answer all the questions until you reach “Apply Overpayment?”
  5. Choose how much of your refund you want to apply to next year

You'll be able to indicate that your 2022 IL state refund should be applied to next year (2023) when you are in the final stage of filing your return with TurboTax.

Yes but I'm in the final stage of filing and have not gotten any opportunity to do this. There was the opportunity to allocate Fed refund to my next year's taxes, but NOT state.

I get to this page: How would you like to receive your Illinois refund? and I am forced to choose a "refund" option; nowhere is there an "apply to next year" option to choose.

I do not know how, within TT's quiz format, to effect any change on Line 39 as you suggest. I need to understand where that is in the TT menu.

Any other thoughts on where this is?

Thanks for this.  Every year I have to search for this option.  Why can't they make this more obvious like in the Federal forms.

The response that you will be given the option to credit the refund just prior to completing the filing procedure is incorrect.   Please advise how this is to be done.
