Filing State tax separate from Federal

The federal tax deadline has been moved to July 15th.  I live in MA and will need to file my State return on April 15th.

I will owe a payment in both cases.

Can I file my state return on 4/15 and delay the fed return until 7/15?

Since the deadline for filing your federal taxes has been changed, you will not need to file an extension. You can just file your federal return before July 15, 2020. However, you cannot electronically file your state return before your federal. Please view this TurboTax FAQ for more information. You do have the option of electronically filing both returns now and not mailing in your federal payment until just before the July 15th deadline. You will just need to select the pay by mail option for your return to do so.
