ESTIMATED TAXES THAT I PAID NOT SHOWING UP ON MY STATE RETURN

I entered my estimated state taxes that I had paid for 2020 on form 1040, but when I got to my state return section it did not show up.  Nothing I tired worked.  It would only show the total state taxes I owed - without subtracting out the estimated tax payment I had already paid and entered on form 1040.  Please Advise.  Thank you.

Here are instructions to enter estimated payments so that they will show up on the state return:

If you made estimated tax payments in 2020 towards your federal, state, or local taxes, enter them in the Estimated and Other Income Taxes Paid section.

  1. With your return open, search for the term estimated tax payments.
  2. Select the Jump to link.
  3. Choose Start next to the type of estimated tax payment you'd like to enter.
  4. Enter the amount of estimated tax you paid at each of the quarterly due dates.

This still doesn't work on the download version of TT Premier 2020 -- amounts listed in state estimated tax in the federal form are not translating over to the state form.

To enter Federal or State Estimated Taxes Paid, including a state estimated payment made in January for the prior year, go to

Federal on left or at top. Personal (Home & Business)

Deductions and Credits at top

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Estimated - click the Start or Update button

You enter state estimated payments under the federal side (because they can be a federal itemized Deduction). THEN after you finish filling out the estimates under Federal you need to click on the State Tab at the top and start the state return over for it to update.

You have to pick the right state from the drop down box and enter the right payment dates.

Entering estimated paid taxes didn't on the Federal Retn didn't work for me, either.

I had to open the State Forms (California 540) and manually enter my tax payments there,

and that seemed to take care of the glitch.

It works.  The estimated tax payments are entered in the federal section of the return. Here are the steps without using the search button.

  1. Sign into your tax return and select Deductions & Credits under the Federal tab (left)
  2. Scroll to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid > Select Show More if necessary
  3. Select Estimated Tax Payments > Select State Estimated Taxes for 2022 > Continue
  4. Select your state and enter the amount for each period
  5. See the image below. This works in both TurboTax Desktop and TurboTax Online

Nope - still doesn't work in windows desktop 2023 version.

Additionally, the help instructions when you click on the hyperlink "go back to your federal return" are inaccurate and don't work either since there is no "Find" in the gray area. I tried "Search" instead and couldn't find the "State Estimated Taxes Paid, Sch A" either - not on the list. WTF?

Windows Desktop
1. Using Find in the gray area at the top of your screen.
2. Enter State Estimated Taxes Paid, Sch A in the search field, and then find and highlight this item in the results list.
3. Select Go.
4. When the window comes up warning you that search is only for the federal return, select Yes
5. Follow the federal instructions on screen to enter state estimated taxes paid.
6. Then, return to your PA return by using the large State Taxes tab on the toolbar at the top of the screen.

Under Deductions & Credits, scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid > Estimates.  Choose Update.

On the next screen, Estimated Taxes, choose 'State Estimated Taxes for 2023'.
