I've already filed my Nebraska state return with a refund of which I am responsible for 1/3. I only earned $1714 in Missouri but it appears it's taxing me on the $65000 I earned in Nebraska at a rate of 3%. Is this correct? I have lived in Nebraska the entire time, only working as a grader for 1 week in Missouri.
Missouri doesn't tax all of your income, but it does factor in all of your income to determine your Missouri nonresident tax. Missouri pretends that all of your income is taxable in Missouri, calculates how much tax you would pay on that amount, and then prorates your tax to the percentage of income earned in Missouri. But if you did not live in Missouri, Missouri doesn't tax the income that you earned outside of Missouri.
