Hi there,
Hope everything goes well! I am a nonresident alien for federal tax but resident for Connecticut tax purposes. My CD account interest (from Chase, for example) is not added to the federal adjusted gross income. I was wondering if I would need to add it to the Connecticut return? My impression is that Connecticut does not collect tax from personal bank accounts, but I am not sure. If I do need to add it, which column in CT1040 Schedule 1 should it be on?
Thanks in advance!
Interest earned on a CD is taxable for both the IRS and CT returns.
If you are a non-resident alien, you would need to file a form 1040 NR. TurboTax does not support the 1040NR, but our partner Sprintax does and can help with your non resident return. It is best to file the state return through the same place you file your federal return.
In this case I need to file 1040NR and CT1040. But my deposite interest tax is exempted on 1040NR, so in this case I guess I don't need to include it in CT1040 either?
