Do you need to include CA State Disability Payments in the Nontaxable Income section to determine sales tax deductions?

If you are trying to take the sales tax deduction when itemizing your return, then yes, you can include your disability payments for the calculations.  This would increase the amount of sale tax calculated if you are using an alternative method instead of the amount of sales tax you actually paid.

Note, the sales tax would still be limited to a maximum of $10,000 and would not be used in conjunction with your state and local income and property taxes.  It is an either or, they are not combined
