Do i need to mail the Form MO-1040V for my missouri state taxes? I am asking because I set up on turbo tax to have my state taxes paid online from debit deposit

i am asking because turbotax says i need to print the form and mail it, but it seems pointless sense i am paying online and there wont be a check going with the form in the mail

You are correct. You don't need to print out the MO-1040V and send it in with a check since you are paying your MO state income tax balance due by Direct Debit

Is this the same for 2023?

I thought this would have been fixed after last year...

Thanks,

Yes.  The same is true for tax year 2023.  You do not need to print/mail a MO-1040V if you are paying your MO tax by direct debit.

I ran into the same issue where I had to pay in Missouri for the 2023 tax year and turbo tax told me I need to mail in MO-1040V after paying direct debit.  The part that concerns me is turbo tax shows the payment is scheduled for 4/15/24 for my state.  If it doesn't go through will I receive a late penalty?

As stated above, if you are paying direct debit, you do not need to print or mail the MO-1040V.  This is only to be mailed if you are mailing a check for payment.

If the payment for whatever reason would not go through such as insufficient funds, you would then potentially be charged a late fee.  The best way to avoid this is to make sure you have money in the account and you entered the correct payment information for the direct debit. If you are aware of an issue that will happen with your payment, or if you are notified of a failed payment, you have up until midnight of the day your return is due to make the payment without penalty.  You can do so, IF you have a failed payment directly on the MO website here.

Also, if you have not yet filed, you can change the date to an earlier date for your payment to be withdrawn.  You will do this in the file section of your return right after you enter the bank account information.
