Determining State Move Dates in a multi-step relocation

I moved from Hawaii to North Carolina this year for the new job.  Our move was as follows:

- My first day at a new Job was November 27th (at which point my employer started deducting both NC and HI state taxes)

- My first day physically in North Carolina was November 30th

- We rented our house on December 14th

- My wife and kids moved from HI to NC on December 28th at which point we moved into the house (I stayed in temporary housing until then)

Questions:

1. What is my move date?

2. What is my wife's move date?

3. Can my wife and I file state returns "Married, filling jointly" with different move dates?

The move-in date is the date you began living in the new state with the intent of making it your new main, primary home (your domicile in tax terminology).

Yes, in TurboTax you can enter different move-in dates for yourself and for your wife.

Per your post, your move-in date would be November 30, and your wife's would be December 28.
