Can I remove one state's data so I can re-enter 2 states in TurboTax Desktop (Mac) in a different order? The state where most income is earned is not my resident state.

Income is earned in both MA (most) and CT (portion) for the same employer but am a full time resident of CT. From what I could find, I need to complete MA first to properly allocate income but did them in the incorrect order. The income shows up twice in the MA form now, grossly miscalculating taxes. Is this possible or do I scrap everything and start over?

Yes, that is correct. You need to complete your non-resident state first, in your case MA. Then, you'll be able to enter a credit for the taxes you paid in MA for your resident CT taxes.

You'll need to 'remove' the states and begin the state sections over again. To do so:

  1. Within TurboTax Desktop for Mac, select the "Forms" mode from the top left icon of the software.
  2. In forms mode, click "File" from the top computer menu and select "Remove Data" and then one of the states. You'll be asked to confirm you want to "Remove" the return. When you go back to "File" you'll have the option to select "Remove other state Data" and confirm.
  3. Switch back to the main software by clicking the "EasyStep" icon in the top left.
  4. Head back into the 'State Taxes' tab and you'll be able to begin again.

I don't have any clickable icon on the top left that show forms. I use the free version online. Do I have another to erase my state tax. Thank you.

It depends.

Are you trying to remove a state return?

If so, you can do this in the state interview section of the program.

You should see your state listed on this page.

You can delete any state returns here if they are not applicable be selecting Delete to the right of the state name.
