My wife and I are residents of MA and will be filing jointly since that gives us the biggest MA refund. I had some income in CT as a nonresident, so I would get a bigger refund by filing married separate for CT, and my wife would not file in CT (she would be a nonresident and had no CT source income). Is that allowed to file one state as married joint and another state as married separately?
We are filing federal as married joint. I saw another post about what to do for changing the status on state returns (making a "mock" federal return to use as a base, but not actually filing this "mock" federal return), https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-prepare-a-joint-federal-return-and-separate-state-returns/00/25564
I wanted to make sure that different states could be filed differently first. Thank you!
