Can I determine what Turbo tax is pulling in to total withholding? It does not agree to my W 2.

Yes, you can determine what TurboTax is pulling in for total withholding and compare it to your W-2. Here’s how:

  1. Review Your Tax Summary:
  2. Sign in to your TurboTax account and select "Take me to my return."
  3. On the left, select "Tax Tools" > "Tools."
  4. In the Tools Center, select "View Tax Summary."
  5. Look for "Total payments" to see the total withholding.
  6. While in the Tax Summary section, you can also select "Preview my 1040" on the left.
  7. Check line 25a for federal income tax withheld

Compare with Your W-2:

  • Ensure that the amounts in Box 2 of your W-2 match the federal withholding shown in TurboTax.
  • If there’s a discrepancy, double-check that all W-2s and any other forms with withholding (like 1099-R) have been entered correctly by following steps below:

Here are the steps to edit your and check W-2 entries in TurboTax:

  1. Open your return: Sign in to your TurboTax account and select "Take me to my return."
  2. Search for W-2: Use the search bar at the top and type "W-2." Select the "Jump to W-2" link that appears.
  3. Edit your W-2 information: On the "Your W-2 Summary" screen, find the W-2 you want to edit. Select "Edit" next to the W-2 entry and make the necessary changes to your W-2 information.
  4. Save and continue: After editing, save your changes and continue with your return.

Common Reasons for Discrepancies

  • Multiple W-2s: If you have multiple W-2s, ensure all are entered correctly.
  • Additional Withholding: Check if you have any additional withholding from other forms like 1099-R for retirement distributions
  • Manual Entry Errors: Sometimes re-entering the W-2 information can resolve discrepancies

any tax document  you enter that show federal withholding will contribute to the total.

OR

you made an entry error.
