Can domestic partners file DC taxes using Married Filing Separately status?

On D-40 form for DC state taxes, I see 2 statuses for domestic partners:  Registered domestic partners filing jointly and Registered domestic partners filing separately on same return. We would like out incomes considered entirely separately and neither of these statuses allows for that. The instructions are a bit confusing but it seems like we might be able to use Married filing separately status in order to keep our incomes separate. Is this correct or am I misreading?

Yes, you can use the Married Filing Separately filing status as registered domestic partners. You would report your own income and expenses on your own separate returns.
