Box 15 has 2 California state ID's on one W-2

My son works for a pizza place in Hollywood.  His employer uses a PEO to process payroll and handle benefits, etc.  He worked for 2 branches of the pizza place that have 2 different CA State ID numbers.  The PEO gave him one W-2 but listed the earnings for each branch separately so boxes 15, 16, and 17 include two amounts.

Turbo Tax will not let me e-file the CA state return because of this.  Is there a work around?  It seems to me that the PEO should have issued 2 W-2's, one for each branch of the pizza place.

Here is how you can enter the additional locations on the input on your son's W-2 in TurboTax:

  1. While you are in your Tax Home,
  2. Select Wages & Income,
  3. Select Review/Edit,
  4. Select Edit next to Job (W-2)
  5. Scroll down to box 15,
  6. Select Add a row,
  7. This will add another row for you to add the second location.

Oops.  I guess I wasn't very clear...  I am using Turbotax Home & Business.  There is already a place to add the additional state info.  Turbotax doesn't like that both states are California on the same W-2.

Just combine both W2's and make them a single entry.  This Turbo Tax link confirms what i just said.

Thank you Dave.  Even if there are two account numbers associated with the amounts?

That is correct. The account numbers are not so much the issue as long as the state wages paid and the amount of taxes withheld are correct.

You will have to reach out to your Employer to get a copy of your w2. Or you can download a Wage and Income transcript from the IRS website.

You will need to create an online account with the IRS at www.irs.gov Once you go there, click "sign in to your account" and follow the instructions on logging in. Once you log in, you can pull your transcripts from your online account. The wage and income transcript will have your W2 information.
