Yes. It can take a few days, especially at the beginning of tax season.
I'm having the same problem. My federal return was accepted. But my California return still says Pending for the last several days. Why is California still pending? HOW DOES IT WORK: Who submits my California return to the state of California ? Does the IRS submit it to California? Or does Turbotax submit it to California ? (This delay to California has never happened to me before).
Some states start processing e-filed returns at the same time as the IRS, while others don't start processing until sometime later. See this link here for more information.
I have the same issue with my California return. My daughter who filed a week after me has had her federal and state accepted.
California says it normally takes up to three weeks to receive a refund if your return was e-filed and up to three months for paper returns.
Some tax returns need extra review for accuracy, completeness, and to protect taxpayers from fraud and identity theft. Extra processing time may be necessary.
You'll receive your refund, or a notice from us requesting additional information within:

That does not explain why people filing now are getting their accepted while us who filed sooner are still waiting. There was apparently a problem with the software and if that is the case Turbotax needs to investigate and reject ours so it can be corrected. This a bit absurd to say it takes 3 weeks when in the past it was accepted right away same time as federal
Some state returns will stay Pending for several days or even longer, especially with the IRS filing delay and backlog this tax season due to COVID closing the offices and leaving the IRS with very few employees working for the past year. The IRS has not stated how long returns can or will remain in pending status.

Stop spamming with your canned response. You clearly are not reading what anyone is typing, if you think anyone is going to give you a like go take a hike.
I filed my husband's taxes and my taxes at the same time on Feb 12th. My husband's California State return has been accepted but mine is still pending. This makes no sense.
I would give you a thumbs down but that is not an option. Turbotax needs to admit if their lack of software update is causing problems with those who filed early and reject it so it can be corrected.
That is a tough one to explain, i would maybe give them 24 hours, but at least you know they are accepting it now vs us who filed a lot sooner and didn't get the software update to fix the error
@HB88 It has been more than 48 hours business days (holiday past Monday). I checked the FTB site and "We do not have a record of your 2020 California Income Tax return in our files." it what is says. They have yet to receive mine. My only logical explanation is maybe my husband's separate tax return is much simpler (we file separately) and mine is much more complicated with our property and dependent.
@graphite_gray That would make the most logical sense. Mine was itemized. I'm still concerned though filing early I did not get the update many did before filing later. There is a still a chance it gets rejected and it causes delays.
@graphite_gray I should mention as well when checking the FTB site like you it states the same they have not receiving anything. This is contrary to the "experts" who say it is received just not processed. I think some of these "experts" need to lose the expert tag under their name as all they do is cause confusion
More insight and explanation on why your return may still be pending has been provided by clicking here.
No one is going to give you thumbs up for spamming canned messages which have nothing to do with the issue. Go away !
so @HB88 was correct - I got an email today that my state return was rejected due to software error. I updated my turbotax today and attempted to re-efile my California return. However, it does not state what the error was.
Glad everyone is getting to file their returns and the issue is being resolved. I just hopped on my system and updating TT again to file again
Some of you have noticed an issue where your return has been in a pending status multiple days. This pending status means we noticed an issue that may have caused your return to be rejected and are doing an extra review to assess the reason it was flagged, resolve it for you, or identify what you need to do to ensure everything is accurate and your return is accepted. If this applies to you, we will be sending you an email within 48 hours with confirmation that your return has been filed, or instructions for any additional steps that need to be taken to ensure an accurate return is filed, accepted, and you receive every dollar you deserve. We apologize again this has caused a delay in receiving your refund.
I e-filed my CA and US return on March 16, 2021, my US return e-file status is accepted, my CA return e-file status is still pending. This is the first time that I have such a long pending state for my e-file. Wonder what causes this and how it can be remedied.
Turtotax had a software glitch making many of us Californians remain in "Pending" status for weeks. They were supposed to notify all those who are in "Pending" status with an email stating that they are aware of the problem and that they would "walk you through" resubmitting your e-file again. I got that email, and thank the Lord my California return was "Accepted" by California that same day, then got my refund a couple of weeks later from California.
You should send an email to the executives of Inuit, along with the Office of the President.

Yes, my return was accepted by California on 1/26/2023 but my return was selected for review related to identity theft and I was notified on 2/21/2023 to send copy of D/L, W2, 1099 and last paystub of the 2022 year. This way they get to take an extra 8 weeks from the time they receive my documents to process my $1K+ refund by verifying my documents. Sounds like a convenient scam to delay paying folks since the state is broke again. Next year I will make sure I own them instead of them owing me.
