I received this prompt while doing my New York State tax return:
Because your residence changed during 2024, you must allocate your New York State Adjustments of $762 based on the time you spent as a resident of New York City or Yonkers.
Your New York State Adjustments below must equal $762.
Could anyone assist with what I need to do? Thank you!
It depends on what the adjustment is for and when you lived in New York City or Yonkers. Do you have a description of what the Adjustments are for?
Hi MaryK4,
I moved out of NYC in July and moved to New Rochelle, NY. Unfortunately, I am not sure what the adjustments are and where the $762 amount is coming from.
The $762 is the amount of NYC flexible program benefits that you inputted in Box 14 of your W-2. Those deductions need to be allocated for your time living in NYC. For example, if you only held that job when you were a NYC resident, then 100% of the deductions would be classified as the NYC resident portion and you would enter $762 in that second box. If not, then please allocate accordingly.
