Account transcript as proof of federal finalization for IL-1040-X

I forgot to add my 1099-NEC to my Tax Return so I've completed the Amended Federal Tax Return using e-file on Turbotax and the status is now 'Accepted'.  Now I want to complete the Illinois Amended Tax return (IL-1040-X). And I noticed that IL-1040-X requires a copy of the Federal 1040X form and also a proof of federal finalization.
About the proof of federal finalization, it says:

- If your federal change resulted in a balance due, proof of federal finalization includes a copy of your federal Form 1040X and a copy of the check you sent to the IRS to pay the tax due. If you do not have a copy of this notification, please contact the IRS to request a tax account transcript.

I didn't use a check for the IRS as I was using an e-file on TurboTax. So, in my case, I guess I need to attach a tax account transcript...
I've downloaded my tax account transcript from my IRS account, but I don't see any updates on the transcript related to the "Amended Tax Return", amended tax return payment, etc... I see only the original Tax Return in my 'account transcript'... When will amended information show up in the 'account transcript'? I guess I need to print and use it as proof of federal finalization for my IL-1040-X only when there will be 'Amended payment' information in the transcript, but how long do I need to wait for that?

As for how long you'll be waiting for the IRS to update your online transcript, we don't have that information. It may take months since that is how long it take the IRS to process an amended return.

  • Per IRSThe current processing time is more than 20 weeks for both paper and electronically filed amended returns.

In the meantime, if you owe the State of IL due to the amended return, pay the IL tax due so you are not charged interest and penalties. Remember to include the payment on your IL 1040-X.
