2016 Pa40 for taxpayer that died in 2020

I am filing a 2016 joint return for a married couple where the primary taxpayer died in February 2020.  The 1040 is printing out correctly indicating the taxpayer is deceased.  The Pa40 worksheet is correctly identifying the taxpayer as deceased from the federal form, but the Pa40 is printing out without switching the spouse to the primary taxpayer, and the primary taxpayer is marked N, not deceased.  How do I get the Pa40 to print out indicating the primary taxpayer is deceased?

What makes you think the surviving spouse should move to Primary?

Also the taxpayer was not deceased in 2016, so why not just file it ?

spouse still would sign, as "surviving spouse".

you can write in the annotation deceased <name> <date> on top of the form.
