Why did my son get a 1099NEC from his uni. related to his scholarship? He isn't an employee of the university, nor is this money related to self-employment activity.
TurboTax is saying that we need to file Sch C, F, or Form 8919. None of these situations apply to a full time student and his scholarship overpayment.

The scholarship overpayment may be treated as earned income if it was not used for educational purposes. In which case it would be entered as income on schedule C and subject to self-employment taxes. That's why it was paid to you on a 1099-NEC.
