Is this right? I made $36 in royalties to from youtube which I claimed on a 1099-misc. Turbo tax is saying I have to claim it as business expense and fill out a Sched C?

I am under $400 but turbotax wont let me continue without filing a Sched C and I don't know how to go back as they are charging me for turbo tax self-emolyed.

You do not have to claim it as self-employment income. Do not enter it as a 1099-MISC otherwise TurboTax will try and put it into self-employment.

Delete your 1099-MISC and enter the amount as Other Taxable Income.

  1. Type 1099-misc in Search in the top right
  2. Select Jump to 1099-misc
  3. On the 1099-MISC Summary, delete the 1099-MISC you entered
  4. Click Federal in the left column
  5. Click Wages & Income at the top
  6. Scroll down to Less Common Income. Click Show more
  7. Start Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
  8. Start Other reportable income
  9. Say Yes to Any Other Taxable Income?
  10. Enter a description and amount
