I have a household employee for whom I have already paid employment taxes for - how do I include the 1040-ES in my filing?

TurboTax is including the amount I already paid for this employee in my federal taxes due and I don't know how to exclude it from filing with my current amount due for my actual tax liability.

You will need to enter taxes already paid to the federal and state, whether for the Social Security and Medicare tax shown on Sch H for the wages or other payments.  Usually only FUTA is paid during the year for a household employee. All taxes are then paid using the sch H for the employee and employer. Since you paid additional tax, follow these steps:

  1. Open your return to the federal Deductions and Credits section
  2. Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  3. Select Estimates
  4. Select federal estimated taxes for 2023 (Form 1040ES)
  5. Did you pay....select yes
  6. Enter the amount paid for each quarter
  7. Continue
  8. If you paid state estimates, you can enter them now.
