I have a 1099 MISC that should not have self employment taxes deducted as it is for volunteer service. How do I enter it on my return

The program sticks on the 1099-MISC, so I suggest you first delete it.

To Delete:

For TurboTax Desktop, switch to Forms (Upper right corner)

TurboTax Online:

Select Tax Tools on the left side-bar

Select Tools from that drop-down

Select “Delete a form” on the TOOLS CENTER screen

Select the Form 1099-MISC and Delete

When you reenter you must answer

No, not like work

Only received this one tax year

No, not with intent to earn money

You might get this year after year, but you need to report only this year for the program to not insist on Schedule C.

This is a TurboTax question, not IRS questions.

Your answers are not reported on your tax return, it is just the way TurboTax decides if the 1099-MISC is Self-Employment.
