How do I report a Fulbright Grant on my tax forms? I taught English abroad as an ETA on the grant and have stipend payments that have to be reported.

You don't say on which form the Grant was reported.

If Form 1099-MISC or a W-2, enter the form in that section.

If not on a specific form, you can use the Education Section under Deductions and Credits.

Deductions & Credits

Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)   START or UPDATE

IF YOU ALSO ENTER A 1098-T, SIMPLY ENTER THE AMOUNT OF THE GRANT AS ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL AID

If you don't have a 1098-T this year-

Start the interview AS IF you have a 1098-T,

Enter "No" for everything pertaining to a credit

Type Grant for the school

say you don't have Form 1098-T  but you have an exception

continue through the interview until you get to the screen to enter additional Fellowships and Grants

This will put the Grant on Schedule 1 Line 8r as instructed by the IRS

If the program gives you any errors for the 1098-T when you go to file, you can delete the 1098-T and the Grant should stay on Schedule 1 line 8r.

If you later need to delete the 1098-T:

To Delete:
For TurboTax Desktop, switch to Forms (Upper right corner)

TurboTax Online:
Select Tax Tools on the left side-bar
Select Tools from that drop-down
Select “Delete a form” on the TOOLS CENTER screen
Select the Form 1098-T and delete
