Can I remove self employment from NYS return?

Hope someone can help me with this. I am a web designer, no employees and am not required to pay any NYS taxes or collect NYS taxes because my services are all digital. According to NYS tax laws.

I started my tax return and I noticed I owe a bit for my state return. When I remove my self employment I go back to being in the green (getting a refund).

My question is, can I file my federal and do my state separately so I don't have to include those self employment wages on my NYS return?

If you are self-employed, you owe federal income tax plus self-employment on your net income after expenses.  You also very definitely owe state income tax in the state where you live when you earned that income, I don't know why you would think you do not.  (You might not owe sales tax.).

You owe state income tax if you have income from performing a service for money.  Why do you think your type of job is exempt?
