1099 NEC

I received a 1099 NEC for some temporary work I did, I don't want to pay SE taxes if I don't have to.  I have a full time job where I receive a W-2.

if I don't have to pay SE taxes, please send directions on how to turn off.

Thanks!

You must answer the follow-up questions correctly to have it reported as other income rather than self-employment income.   Am I Self-Employed?   If you determine that the income is not self-employment and need to report it as other income, follow the steps below.

Please note, if you already entered the income as self-employment, you will need to delete the 1099 entry and the Schedule C that was generated to completely remove any errors.   After deleting the previous erroneous entries, re-enter your 1099-NEC as follows:

Under Other Common Income, select Start or Revisit next to Form 1099-NEC.   Enter your 1099-MISC info on the Let's get the info from your 1099-MISC screen and click Continue.  The next screen asks if any uncommon situations apply.   Select the radio button next to This is not money earned as an employee or self-employed individual (this is rare).  The income will go to Other Income instead of business income on Schedule C.

If you have a 1099-MISC (not a 1099-NEC), there are a few more questions you must answer.   You must report you only got the money this year and that the income was not an intent to make money, nor did it involve work like your main job.
