1099 NEC received for a $1000 award for 'Best Lecture'

I am preparing taxes for my daughter a graduate Ph.D student recieving a fellowship/stipend for her pre-Doc work.   She received a $1000 award for 'best lecture'  that was reported on a 1099 NEC,  which leads down the self-employed Schedule C route.   She is not self-employed nor a 'business'  so am not sure how to handle this within turbotax.   There are no expenses here, just the award.

You need to alter the 1099-NEC to mark the income as sporadic income.

To enter the 1099-NEC as sporadic income in TurboTax Online please follow these steps:

  1. Use the magnifying glass icon to search 1099-NEC and select the Jump to link that appears in the results
  2. Click Edit/Add for your form 1099-NEC
  3. Input the details of your 1099-NEC and click Continue
  4. Answer the questions and Continue until you get to the Does one of these uncommon situations apply? page
  5. Choose This is not money earned as an employee or self-employed individual, it is from a sporadic activity or hobby (this is not common) and click Continue
