Will TT tell a user that they don't need to file? TP>65, files single, w personal exemption & standard deduction. 1/2 of SS and pension income is less than $25K.

Non SS income < $11,900.  Why doesn't TT tell me that this TP doesn't have to file?

It is not up to the program to decide if you want or need to file a return ... some people file even if they are not required to do so and the IRS doesn't mind.  However, if you complete the return and you have no taxable income and no withholding or credits to be refunded then you can choose to not file a return.

Hope you are not trying to "do the math" for TurboTax.  Enter your SSA1099 exactly as it appears, and let TT do the calculations for you.  Enter your 1099R as well, and let TT figure it out for you.

Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security to enter your SSA1099.

To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
