Will the Social Security office be able to take some of my disability check because of me getting back send money

It is possible.  If you are getting a refund and wonder if they will take your refund to offset a debt, I will suggest you contact the Treasury Offset Program at 800-304-310 to verify.  

 

Here are the possible reasons when the offset is taken:

  • Past due child support;
  • Debts owed to a federal agency;
  • Unemployment debts owed to the state;
  • Past due federal student loans;
  • Unpaid state income tax.
