Will I need to report my widow's benefits if I received 36,000 from long term disability? I was told by SOCIAL SECURITY that the LTD did not count.

Social Security long term disability income may be exempt from taxation, but this is dependent on other income you report on your tax return. The best thing to do is report it in TurboTax and the program will determine if it is taxable to you.

Company paid long term disability benefits are taxable if the company paid the insurance premiums and the premiums were not included in your wage income in the year paid. If you paid the premiums or the company paid them and then included the payments in your taxable income on your W-2 form, then they are not taxable.
